Borderlands gets free level cap raise
Gearbox offers 8 more levels to grind
Gearbox founder, Randy Pitchford, has revealed Borderlands will receive a free update that will raise the game’s level cap from 61 to 69.
Pitchford confirmed the update in front of a PAX crowd filled with Borderland’s loving gamers.
“The level cap will now be 69…That’s the magic number,” said Pitchford.As well as increasing the level cap the free update will also include tweaks to re-balancing the game.
Gearbox also surprised the PAX audience with the confirmation that it’s working on Duke Nukem Forever , and that it’s even complete and playable at the show. We said “wow”.

TRACKING EARL: Holiday travel plans effected by forecast
REGION (WGGB) As Earls winds and rain batter the south coast of Massachusetts and Cape Cod, people from western Massachusetts are gearing up to help should they be called.
Pat and George Cordon of Wilbraham are getting ready to take a trip this Labor Day, but now what you might think. Yes, theyre headed to the Cape, but its not a vacation. “Just knowing as a volunteer we have the information to give them, its so fulfilling,” says Pat Cordon.
The Cordons are just two of eleven volunteers from right here in western Massachusetts with the American Red Cross of the Pioneer Valley. The plan for these trained volunteers is to spend at least the next week helping out people in shelters on the Cape.
Theyre not the only ones though lending a helping hand. Crews from National Grid are packing up here in Northampton and heading to the Cape, readying to get any power outages back up as soon as they can.
In West Springfield, at F.M. Generators, 30 technicians and 50 generators already in place on Long Island and ready to provide the back-up power for emergency calls just in case the generators there go down.

First Bit.Trip Fate Details Revealed

The fifth Bit.Trip title has the Commander shooting stuff in space.
At the Destructoid Live PAX event, Gaijin Games revealed the first gameplay footage of Bit.Trip Fate, the fifth game in the WiiWare exclusive Bit.Trip series. This time around the game will be a shooter in which players must guide Commander Video by shooting all the obstacles and enemies on screen. The title will retain the retro look the series is known for as well as a chip tune soundtrack by Minusbaby, which is available for purchase now on CD Baby .
Bit.Trip Fate will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Wii Zapper support was previously revealed on the Bit.Trip Facebook page . The joystick will move Commander Video around while the pointer fires on the screen. Upgrades can be collected so the player can use stronger attacks. Music and rhythm has always played a huge role in the series’s gameplay, and Bit.Trip Fate is no exception. Obstacles and enemies on the screen will be linked to the music.
Finally, Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy and Mr. Robotube from Robotube Games will be making appearances in Bit.Trip Fate. Commander Video is set to appear as a playable character in Super Meat Boy.
A release date for Bit. Trip Fate has yet to be announced, but Gaijin Games promises that it will be very soon. More information can be found on the official game page .

There was a time when going out for a run meant putting on some sneakers and leaving for a jog around the park. But if you need any indication of how far weve come, take a look at Nikes latest? Nike+ GPS app for the iPhone, released today on Apples App Store.
Using the iPhones GPS and? accelerometer, the app lets you track not only your pace, distance, and calories when you go out for runs, but visually maps your run routes on Google Maps, showing you where you went and at which exact points you sprinted or slowed down.
Unlike previous Nike+ iPod offerings, no special sensors or kits are required for the app to function.
A couple of features worth mentioning are voice feedback which lets you know how youre doing and the ability to tap on the map at anytime to see how far youve come. Additionally, some will appreciate its integration with the popular PowerSongs feature from other Nike+ apps, which lets you setup and play specific songs for different types of runs.
The app also syncs with Nikeplus.com , Nikes online community, which has grown to over 3 million members since its debut back in 2006. Using the site,? users can set challenges and track and share their progress through Facebook and Twitter.
While designed for the iPhone, users with an iPod Touch and iPad can also use it, albeit without the GPS tracking capabilities. The app is? available? on Apples App Store for $1.99.
Weve covered a couple of similar applications before. A company called RunKeeper launched an iPhone app that maps runners progress back in March of this year. And the San Francisco Country Transit Authority launched something similar for bicyclists in November 2009 called CycleTracks .

Solar Probe Plus to Go Where No Probe Has Gone Before

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you flew a rocket straight into the sun? Youll soon be able to find out because NASA plans to do just that.
NASA is planning to send a space probe, the Solar Probe Plus, through the suns corona in order to gather information about why the corona is so hot, and why it generates solar winds.
Scientists and nerds alike have been wanting to do this for a long time, and hopefully, NASA will send this probe into the sun by the planned date of 2018.
One of the biggest challenges of this mission, is making a probe that can withstand the heat of the sun. Discovery reports that the Solar Probe Plus, which is being developed by Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in Baltimore, will have to withstand temperatures of up to 2,6000 degrees Fahrenheit.? The heat shields on space shuttles are designed to melt away on reentry, but the Space Probe Plus wont have that luxury.
The whole point of the mission is to do particle detection and in situ measurements. If youre measuring part of your shield thats not going to work, said Andy Dantzler, Solar Probe Plus project manager at Johns Hopkins University.
The Solar Probe Plus will make 24 journeys around the sun, eventually closing its distance. It will eventually pass within 4 million miles of the sun, which is 8 times closer than any previous probe.

Apple cleans up spam, tweaks interface in iTunes Ping
Though spammers quickly flocked to Apple’s fledgling social network last week, most of the bogus surveys and other unwanted comments were removed by Monday.
Soon after it was unveiled last week, Ping was inundated with spam , as comment sections on many popular artists’ pages were filled with links to items like phony surveys. But by Monday, that spam was all but removed from the service.
Ping also initially had a number of fake accounts, with users posing as Apple executives, including CEO Steve Jobs and designer Jony Ive. Many of those accounts had also disappeared by Monday.
In addition, Apple made minor tweaks to the Web-based interface of Ping, adding “back” and “forward” buttons that were missing when the service launched last week alongside the release of iTunes 10 . The buttons make it easier for users to navigate the Ping service, which can only be accessed through iTunes.
On Friday, Apple revealed that Ping had enlisted more than a million users in its first 48 hours. About a third of the people who downloaded iTunes 10 activated the service, said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet services.
But despite the initial success, Ping was also met with some criticism by members of the press when it launched last week. Some, including Peter Kafka of , complained that Ping does not analyze a user’s entire music library . Instead, it only considers items that were purchased through the iTunes Store.
Ping has also been criticized for its lack of connectivity with other, larger, and more established social networks. Facebook last week reportedly blocked API access to Ping after the company failed to reach an agreement with Apple. Chief Executive Steve Jobs alleged that Facebook demanded “onerous terms” for the two parties to work together.

Makes fun of Apple’s aversion to Flash via a print ad
Looks like Apple’s competitors have caught up with it when it comes to taking a dig at competition. Apple, who is traditionally known for its cheeky advertising campaigns against its competitors (most often, ripping them to shreds, in a very subtle manner) has, for quite sometime, been at the receiving end.
Motorola, who had earlier mocked Apple with a No Jacket Required ad campaign, making fun of the iPhone 4’s (in)famous reception issues, is at it again in an ad that appeared in the print media recently. The latest ad, showcasing the Droid 2, has a caption that reads Flash Websites? There’s a Phone for that.
If you’re wondering what’s so cheeky about this caption let us remind you of Apple’s famous caption for its app store with the caption There’s an app for that. Rings a bell?
With Apple clearly distancing itself from integrating Flash support on its mobile devices, competitors have been taking advantage of the controversy and it seems, till now, only Motorola could think of something as cheesy as this!

For all you folks saying “they should focus on innovation instead of cheeky adverts”, I have 2 things to say: 1: Me thinks you don’t know what “innovation” even is. 2: Are you under the impression that the engineers just stop “engineering” and lay about coming up with ad campaigns? They hire people to do that. I had a bad experience with them a few years ago… and i made sure none of my friends/relatives bought a moto phone. I am sure there would be many like me. Squeeze every phone on the planet to death and declare they too suffer from signal loss. Apple themselves have to blame for this.

i think motorola is trying really hard. But till now I dont think they have been able to steal the thunder from Apple. Although some of my friends really like their Droid, I think they should focus more on innovation than these marketing digs.
Why would you prefer buying an iPod Touch over an iPhone?
I don’t, iPod Touch is redundant when you can buy good media phones
It is cheaper/It’s better value for money
I don’t want to drain my phone’s battery for entertainment

Hawking: The Universe does not need a creator
11 dimensions, vibrating strings, particles, two-dimensional membranes and lots of shapes that are really difficult to picture these are the things involved in the M-Theory that can explain the creation and the existence of the universe but the Creator is not involved, according to Harvard professor, physicist, cosmologist and genius thinker Stephen Hawking.
Professor Hawking, in his latest book? The Grand Design, claims that there is indeed an almost almighty, invisible and as yet unmeasurable force that is responsible for the creation of the universe, but it is not some divine will, but a force known to man: gravity.
Dont understand this the wrong way: Professor Hawking and his co-author, CalTech physicist Leonard Mlodinow do not deny the existence of God himself they just say that there is no need for a creator to explain the existence of the universe. They are explaining this on scientific terms only.
Professor Hawking, tied to his wheelchair because of his health condition (he has Lou Gehrigs disease) says the book is purely scientific, without any theology, and tries to explain two issues: where did the universe come from and why is it tuned so finely to allow us to exist in it.
Professor Hawkings latest book is out tomorrow, September 7.
